Features Washington Invasives
Invasive species are non-native plants, animals, and insects that harm native species, ecosystems, native people’s cultural resources, and industries such as agriculture, forestry, and hydropower.
Expansions of global trade and increases in human mobility have resulted in unprecedented invasion by invasive species.
These species threaten biodiversity, habitat quality, and ecosystem function and are believed to have contributed to the decline of 42% of the endangered and threatened species in the United States.
In Washington, the costs of dealing with invasive species are in the millions of dollars each year.Managing invasive species here in Washington State is complex due to the number and types of pathways through which species are introduced.
A number of local, state and federal agencies and organizations work to prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species, physically control or eradicate them, monitor their distribution, and understand their characteristics.
Now you can help contribute to identifying and reporting invasive species before they become a bigger problem.
The goal of this mobile app is to make species identification easier and help improve detection and reporting of harmful invasive species statewideYou can submit invasive species sighting reports directly with your mobile device where they occur.
These sighting reports are submitted to Washington Invasive Species Council (WISC) staff and technical experts throughout the state to review and approve sighting reports.
Sightings that are approved will be viewable directly through the app’s mapping tool.
You can also learn more about priority invasive species in Washington with easy-to-understand descriptions and images.
This mobile app is part of an integrated invasive species reporting and outreach campaign for WISC that also includes a website with an online reporting form.FEATURES - GPS and Photo Tools Easy species reporting uses your GPS to capture your current location and an image of your sightings.

"Very helpful"

"Educational and hoping it helps the database"
A Google user
"Great resource. I don't know who sees it or how often the reported siting information is reviewed, but that is also a nice feature."
Amber Chaki
"Needs more details and an expanded list of invasive species."
Bruh Boi
"App permissions updated! Thank you! Some other features that could be added: *More than 1 pic per plant. Leaf pattern, different stages of growth, etc *Do not return to top of list after viewing a species. Return to the previously selected plant to the middle of page. *List is manageable now but if list gets bigger a search function. Broad leaf, height, color, etc"
A Google user
"With pictures and names, it's easy to understand what plant is being described."
Aaron W Cummings
"I am now too scared to open the app after reading the reviews. I guess I put the cart in front of the horse but I was excited to find the app so I could report the Scotch Broom that is plaguing our little island. I downloaded the app before reading the reviews...too bad."
Kymberly Abbe
"This app will not respond to tapping on the checkmark icon of a photo. The only thing that works after taking a photo is the back icon. This is the same icon on a photo that works fine when I use the iNaturalist app. Phone is Asus Zenphone running Android 8.0.0.The app is non-functional for reporting sightings of invasives. I have not tried to use the other features as I wanted to get going on the current Scotch Broom census."
Todd Folsom
"I need to report a wasp that was more than double the size of the other wasp attacking my mason bees but I don't want u to access my files"
Ali'i S
"Downloaded to state that the "giant" asian hornet has been around her in maryland for at least 8 years. I see them every spring through the summer"
